The Brief

The refurbishment of the interior and terrace of a  penthouse in Blackfriars, London. The design will be inspired by the urban location and the client’s desire for a space that is both impressive, contemporary, minimal and masculine

The Concept

The scheme will take as its urban inspiration the brutalist architecture of London, which includes some of the finest examples in the world. The forms are simple and blockish characterised by the use of raw concrete and angular, geometric shapes. The scheme at Blackfriars will take the textures and materials of brutalism and refine them in an impressive but comfortable interior. The masculine, minimal scheme will be balanced with the relaxed elegance of Scandinavian furniture, textiles and lighting characterised by light colours, natural elements and clean lines. The final scheme will be an exciting mix of two modern design led concepts combined in a warm, inviting home.

Not only have Kat and Jess achieved more than I hoped for, they have been great fun to work with. Straight away their enthusiasm for the project made them the right choice and they carefully refined my vague brief into exactly what I was after. They came up with ideas and concepts that I could not have thought of myself but that fitted perfectly within the scheme. I’ve really enjoyed the project and it was made a whole lot easier given their continued consideration of budget which came in spot on.
